Advantages of Giving Humanoid Robot Artificial Skin

Full humanoid robot building playlist

I decided I want to create artificial skin for my robot. It will keep dust and dirt out, it will protect and cushion the bones and the delicate electronics, and it will give realism. This robot is meant to mimic a human in its ability and its appearance, so realistic looking skin and form will go a long way to bringing realism. Silicone will be used to form the cushioning and form and it will represent fat and/or muscle under the skin. The skin itself will be made from latex used for making halloween masks most likely. This is ideal because it is paintable and flexible. It also stretches which is important. Although... silicone is a great skin option too so we'll see. Testing needed. The hope would be the robot could pass for a person and go shopping at a store without hassles!
