It is very important to me that my robot be as human looking as possible, so that means the servo motors will be encased inside artificial silicone and latex skin. This will cause overheating issues of the sensitive electronics unless I have a cooling system designed to exchange cool air intake with the hot air being produced by the electronics. In order to achieve this goal, I designed an artificial lung. Inspired by the accordion musical instrument, this lung will open drawing in air and close, expelling air. When it opens and draws in air, it will be drawing in air through tubes coming from the nose and mouth openings. It will close off those tubes once it has reached its max lung air intake capacity and then it will open a vent tube and exhale, forcing air through a tube network leading to all enclosed heat generating areas throughout the robot. As the air reaches these enclosed spaces, it will displace the hot air that has accumulated there, which will escape through a network of vent line hoses which converge and exit the body through the nose and mouth. Using this system, I will cool the whole body of the robot.
